Governor Katie Hobbs ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Oct. 29, in honor of the death of workers’ rights leader Dolores Huerta. She passed away Wednesday at age 96.

A longtime labor leader and co-founder of the United Farm Workers, Huerta’s advocacy changed the lives and working conditions of countless farm workers in Arizona and California.

Governor Hobbs released the following statement:

“Arizona and our nation lost a true champion of civil rights today. Dolores Huerta spent her life fighting for farmworkers, working families, and basic human dignity. Her courage will forever inspire us. My heart goes out to her family, loved ones, and the community mourning her loss.”

Individuals, businesses and other organizations are encouraged to join in this tribute.
